[hold on, he's got to balance a box of bagels and his phone without dropping either. it's a delicate task, see, even with these reflexes.]
oh man did you read my mind?? because you won't believe what i just got a whole dozen bagels! ACTUAL bagels, like literally from utopia bagels not even dunkin
[oop, swaying. give him another second.]
please tell me you're in your room right now because i'm almost there and i think if i have to go down another staircase i might drop something
[ A little tough to do a sneaky gift delivery in cramped quarters, but at some point while Peter’s out Gwen leaves a plate on their nightstand: there are a few iced gingerbread cookies, a couple in the shape of dreidels and one attempt at a gingerbread Spider-Man.
[he'd honestly planned to forget about hanukkah this year. it'd been sad enough that first after uncle ben died, and now he'd be facing this without may, too. but gwen remembers everything, so of course she'd remember this, too.
when he finds this on the nightstand, he isn't that surprised, honestly.
his smile is soft, and his laugh, equally soft, is also a little shaky as he reads the note she'd left next to the cookies. it's sweet, and it's thoughtful, and —
well, there she is, so he can tell her that himself.
wrapping his arms around her once he's close enough, he pulls her in for a quick kiss.]
I'd never make fun of your icing spider-suit. [and one more kiss.] I give him a solid seven out of ten. Honest.
[guy who has no idea what's happening and is totally just trying to play it cool:]
uh i mean actually i think that would probably make you feel more hungry?? you know you're burning calories and stuff which would tend to make you feel more hungry if you're trying to feel less hungry maybe
drink coffee a lot of coffee that'd probably work better
[ the photo sent is taken with a little apprehension that’s evident in jackie’s expression as she tries to get the pose right to show off the set she’d found. ]
What do you think? I wasn’t sure about the colors but something kind of drew me to it anyway.
[for maybe about the third time since he's gotten here, peter says, 'holy shit' out loud to himself when he sees this. holy shit, and — what does he respond back with?
it's a minute. then:]
no no the colors look really good you look really nice your picture has good lighting, too doesn't wash you out or anything
[ Left on Peter’s pillow, on Christmas Eve, wrapped in red-and-white spiderweb paper: a scrapbook, or the beginnings of one, with Polaroids of the two of them and stickers and notes in gel pen. Only a handful of pages are filled in, so far.
(And there might be a couple loose Polaroids of Gwen in just socks and underwear, too.) ]
I thought it might be nice to fill this up together.
Merry Christmas, Peter. I’m glad I got to spend it with you. 🎄💕
[it's the three worst words in the english language put together in a sentence. peter hasn't been sleeping well anyway, not since he'd tried to deflect gwen at the portraits, and — yeah, he's gotta say? the knot in his stomach twists even tighter.]
( it's one thing having experience with this kind of thing. well, this kind of thing-lite. saturday would have had his best friend salivating at the craziness straight out of a comic book and a j-horror movie all at once, but ryan's not the type. it did remind him of his bout of insomnia. he'd watched a lot of movies in that time, but they aren't the same to watching a live broadcast.
he misses the breakfast message, because he'd come in from doing a workout and had sourced a small ipod.
but, you can't miss your phone. and what's on it.
he's been in and out of the bathroom a few times, already. it's natural. what you do. but the other door, he never thought about. in fact, he didn't really notice it, except for late one night when he'd gotten up to pee.
now, mid-day, deciding whether or not to venture out into the house again, he goes to close his bathroom door and sees peter's open.
doors obviously go both ways.
and, he obviously shares this bathroom. his luck the other person hasn't just barged in. he makes a mental note to lock the other door (and his for that matter), for next time.
but, he's a polite guy and if he's sharing a space, he should introduce himself. so, he approaches the slightly ajar door. he doesn't hear any tell tale signs of anything. he could knock and the door could swing open to nothing. but, he knocks all the same. )
i absolutely wanna do experiments with you, gwen stacy especially when we've got the mysteries of the universe on the line like how could you fit that many m&ms on a pizza?? who thought that was a good idea??
